Happiness is..

It is our thinking that is so fucked up. If I think pleasant pea brain thoughts of course I'm going to be happy. But is it possible to think truthful, hurtful thoughts and still get to happy? What is happiness anyway? We are all headed for the compost heap. How can any of us be happy knowing this?

Happiness is a short moment in time. It isn't a continual business. I think much of our difficulties with happiness arise because we think happiness is a fruit that can be eaten year round. It can't be. We can't be happy, happy and more happy unless we have had a lobotomy.

Happiness is this: you are awake. You see your hand moving and you realize you are still alive. You turn over to your husband and realize he is still alive. Your children are alive. Your extended family is still alive. You get another fragment of time to tear to bits. That is happiness. What more do you want? Anything more than time is a plus. Anything more than life itself is a benefit package you never expected.

Happiness is not dependent on your thoughts although we pervert our happiness with our thoughts. Oh, I'd be happier if I had a pony, a BMW, a megamansion, a trip to Jamaica, a rich lover, a house at the lake, assets and yes, a decent job. I'd be happier. Not. Happiness is not a thing or other dependent business although we think it is. Happiness is just the business of being.
